Default Wind Turbine Explosion

More like self destruct, because of a brake failure.

It’s certainly better than oil spill , nuclear meltdown or a coal-train derailment!

Few human endeavours are without risk.
The best that we can do is to understand, manage and mitigate risk.

Wasn't this a setup job or something? I mean it's a bit of a coincident that someone happened to be filming it at that exact moment.

Here's a link to the story.

"The climate minister, Connie Hedegaard, is calling for an investigation to determine the cause of two violent wind turbine collapses in Denmark in the past week."

"In first of the two collapses, near the city of Århus, a 10-year-old windmill began spinning out of control during high winds. A recording of the explosion-like collapse shows one of the wing blades breaking off, casting debris into the three other wings and shearing the 60- metre tower nearly in half."

I don't think placing a wind turbine in a populated area is a good idea, although many cities have them installed.

I'm not too sure how often wind mills collapse - and there are allegations that this clip is a hoax.

But either way, while it would not be too "nice" for anybody who happened to be close to the turbine at the time of such an event, it would definitely affect a much smaller area (and less people) than power stations using most other forms of energy - especially nuclear.

While the event in the video looks extremely dramatic, power generation using wind probably has one of the lowest "societal risks" in the event of a mishap at the facility-level.
