Sorry Hoon, that was just a piss-take on the post by MH,I wonder where that footage was taken?

The reason that you tube was down BTW was that the Pakistani Government were playing silly buggers with the interweb, trying to censor something or other. They knocked youtube off for a bout 2 hrs.Must be nice to live in a place like that

mm its wierd that they had the camera on it so steadily... maybe testing? cool tho!

You can see how the first blade caught the tower and basically exploded then it threw the whole balance off and then the whole thing blew up!

I wonder how fast the wind was.

Edit: found a few more on you tube.. generally brake failure, SCADA reports it, so they film it.

Ah, the plot thickens. So the owners knew it was broken and filmed it safe in the knowledge that it would blow to bits?

Seems a bit dangerous to me. Couldn't they have just repaired the brake or taken the thing down or something?

i'm speculating here but they probably would have if the wind had slowed down although to break it like that would have required well above 25m/s so was unsafe to get into (obviously!!).

edit: they're worth a lot of money so you can reason they would have done anything to stop it being destroyed if it was possible.

I was going to say testing as well. In a House episode just recently a guy nearly gets his leg cut off from a failed windmill. I wonder if they watched the same clip.

There's an interesting complication of accidents involving wind turbines here
