Yesterday I was given an eastern rosella, found a few months ago by a friend - puffing exhaustedly on his balcony! He took it in & bought a cage for it, as he knew that otherwise it would just die. (They are native to Oz & can be found in NZ too.) Yes - I know birds should not be kept in cages

but in this case, needs must.
Poor thing was very scared - specially after the car trip to my house! - and flapped about a lot

has 'dislocated' one of the wing feathers doing this.
Anyway....I went out & bought a new cage this morning - more than twice the size of the original - and she hopped in straight away & seems much more relaxed, not flapping so much & letting me come close up without batting an eyelid (if parakeets bat eyelids!!) I put a couple of apple tree branches in & some millet in sprig, some apple & raisins...what a feast!
So if anyone knows anything about rosellas - tips or whatnot - I'll be grateful to hear them!

She's beautiful & I've called her Sophia
