Default Primates 'face extinction crisis'

A global review of the world's primates says 48% of species face extinction, an outlook described as "depressing" by conservationists.

The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species says the main threat is habitat loss, primarily through the burning and clearing of tropical forests.

Primate experts are savoring a rare piece of good news for once about endangered gorillas: After two years of grueling surveys in the Republic of Congo, 125,000 previously uncounted gorillas were discovered there.

New numbers adding up to rare hope for rarer gorillas -- chicagotribune.com

Some good news at least.

These guys are our cousins (albeit distant) maybe we should look after them - after all, we're next.

Exactly - Homo sapiens is the primate species with the highest risk of extinction, but unlike the others, through its own "intelligently designed" actions...
