Default Sharks swim closer to extinction

More than half of the world's ocean-going sharks are at risk of extinction, a new analysis concludes.

Specialists with IUCN (formerly the World Conservation Union) found that 11 species are on the high-risk list, with five more showing signs of decline.

I'm glad to see some shark news on here. It is really scary to think about the top predator of the oceans going extinct. Don't want to imagine what would happen to the earth if this happens.

The shark nets at Bondi beach could be removed?

Every little bit helps so removing that net would be great. What I am looking to do though is try to get people to start to rally for the sharks like they have for the whales and start a moratorium much like the one for the whales for sharks. Over 100 million sharks are fished a year and of that about 70 million are fished for their fins alone. While some are still alive their fins are cut off and the rest of the shark is thrown back in the water to drown and bleed to death. This has got to stop because with the numbers they are taking for this tasteless soup they can not come back.
