A new generation of medical treatments could be lost forever unless the current rate of biodiversity loss is reversed, conservationists have warned.

They say species are being lost before researchers have had the chance to examine and understand their potential health benefits.

Funny how people will freak out about SARS, and Mad Cow (two diseases with almost non-existent death counts), and yet turn a blind eye when we are at risk of losing a vast and unimaginable resource.

We'll engineer new molecules or proteins from non existent ones for specific pursposes. It's a lot more efficient then searching in a pool of random molecules hoping to find what you're looking for...
