No Pristine Oceans Left, New Map Shows
No areas of the world's oceans remain completely untouched by humanity's influence, according to a new study.
Every area of the oceans is feeling the effects of fishing, pollution, or human-caused global warming, the study says, and some regions are being affected by all of these factors and more.

The Japanese corner wasn't a surprise. Didn't know that the North Sea was so highly affected though.

The North Sea may well be there due to the overfishing [for industrial purposes ] of sand eels. These were brought to the point of collapse with a disastrous result for almost every other species in the region .A recovery is underway but it will take time.I read an early version of that report and there are lots of bits and pieces thrown into the stewpot which makes this bleak picture. This concern for the oceans may well be the replacement for global warming

Scary just how messed up things are around Britain. The sad thing is that even with mounting evidence about the parlous state of the oceans we don't seem to want to do anything about it

Don't be downhearted emz, there is an enormous amount of work being done, but it's not newsworthy so it gets overlooked.I had some folks to dinner just the other night who had hands on experience in the field work around parts of our coasts and I was tremendously encouraged by what they had to say.

Replacement for Global Warming
"This concern for the oceans may well be the replacement for global warming "
The funny thing about this statement is that Global Climate Change is just 1 factor that determines the fate of our Oceans.
We must also include overfishing, reef disease, CO2, Methane and Land Based nutrient enriched storm water runoff.
This is the newest term for Agricultural and Development pollution, I learned it at the Symposium.
Land Based Nutrient Enriched Storm Water runoff.
