It is strange, I was watching an old edition of Have I Got News For You last night and they were talking about last years hose pipe ban and how the resevoirs were running dry etc. What a difference a year makes

For those in the UK, the Environment Agency provide information on their website which summarises the water resource situation in England and Wales.

River levels here are still pretty high, Snowmelt up in the Rockies must be proceeding quickly as temperatures here are too high for my liking. We're seeing the odd thunder shower pass through but it's pretty patchy. Some areas within a few miles of here still haven't had any moisture since spring started.

starting out a new spring with an old thread, There doesn't seem to be much run-off here yet. The snow we had seems to be going straight into the ground, which is a good thing but is an indication that we finished up last crop year with dry soil.

Funny that you posted that, today is the first this year that I actually felt like having lunch outside. The ground is still very soggy so water levels are up to normal [that is, swishing around your bum in these parts] but I think its heading for cold and rain at the week end.

We have had a year of near record snow, snowpack in the high country is 150% of normal. We're finally warming up this spring, but gradually, runoff has been OK so far. There is a lot of worry when it does warm up, the high snow pack may cause flooding in the lower country. One of our longest winters on record, we have around a foot of snow on the level at my place yet-last year we had planting done by this time. We've needed a good heavy snowpack to help with our forest health, we have had some dry years and quite a bit of die-off.

Our snow has gone really rapidly this week. Water water everywhere. In one respect it's good because if it didn't go pretty quickly it was going to be a late spring for getting a crop in the ground. The bad part is that when the melt happens this quickly there is a lot more run-off rather than soaking into the ground. It's been hot enough and dry enough around here for the last couple of years that we are always on the edge of need for more moisture.

and hot and dry again so far this year. crops haven't grown any in two weeks. there is water down about six feet so I suppose alfalfa would still be doing fine. ground water though has disappeared
