Default The real cost of bottled water

Quote:
Clearly, the popularity of bottled water is the result of huge marketing
efforts.

Despite making some good points, it's a very biased article.

So why is it that we drink bottled water in the quantities that we do?

Bottled water is a little pet peeve of mine. I really enjoy when municipalities take action against it. Such as in New York where the city has campaigned to promote tap water, San Francisco which no longer allows city money to be spent on bottled water, and in my hometown of Moncton, New Brunswick, where the city bottled its own tap water and gave the bottles of away to promote the fact that the tap water is safe and sometimes even of a better quality.
Ultra secret tip if you have a Nalgene type bottle you can get water from almost anywhere water fountains and taps!! Really! Try it!

There's a Panorama program tonight about bottled water.

BBC NEWS | Programmes | Panorama | Bottled Water: Who Needs It?

8.30pm on BBC1 if anyone wants to watch it.

I saw that too Andrea, interesting stuff. I dunno why people drink bottled water, I really don't. I mean it's not like Earth generates new water, it's all part of the same system recycled over and over.

I'd like to see a repeat of a little test I saw on BBC television a few years ago.
In the studio there was a number of "experts" on bottled water.
After they had pontificated about the merits of different brands of bottled water they were presented with a number of different kinds of water (in unmarked bottles) and asked to rate them.
Thames Water - ordinary tap water - scored best.

I came across this yesterday

Water - the taste test - Telegraph

Not sure quite how worthwhile it is though as they compare still water with fizzy.
