PS to the above.I have been looking at figures from various places and note that charges for water and sewage are rocketing. It is becoming obvious that moving away from a few hot spots is the only alternative to working maybe a day each week to pay these charges after you have been taxed to the eyebrows already .

Yes, until the politicians learn that the developers aren't the ones they serve & start getting serious by setting mandates & raising usage fees, nothing really will change until its too late & we're out of water.

We're based in Raleigh, NC where we have been promoting our water conservation lines in this unprecedented drought. Now with the recent rains, everyone thinks the danger is past.

I have to say that some communities are taking a serious approach, especially in regards to new construction, but unless our public is better educated as to what the future holds, combined with rebate incentives, in addition to higher fees which are coming, nothing really will change.

Did any of the reservoirs get back up to normal levels? how was the rain, average for this time of year? above? It seems like a lot of our problems are aided by our short sightedness.

Its getting better in this past month with some communities in the region already loosening outdoor water restrictions, but here in Raleigh we're still a few feet shy of where we need to be at Falls Lake. Overall, we'll still 10" short of where we should be this time of year so we still have a ways to go.

Again, some cities in the area are thinking towards the future with Cary starting a toilet retrofit rebate. New construction mandates are also in the works specifying dual flush models.

We'll be at Earth Day this Saturday & are hoping that it will be a little drier than last weekend at a very wet Frog Fest.

I mentioned the talks years back of a grid system in the UK that came to nothing, has there been any work done in the USA on these lines? Here is an area where wind would come into its own.In simple terms to move water from a wet and windy area to where there was a shortage. The construction of reservoirs [and think small !] would not be a mammoth undertaking,if you factor in using reservoirs as amenity areas then the economics would begin to look good.Old quarries and other eyesores come be cleaned up,and the windmills would only have to do a topping up job and so their intermittent operation would not not be a problem and pumping cheap to run.
