Yes Emma, they are used for roads and they're also shredded for use in playgrounds for a soft landing when falling off slides and stuff.

Absolutely LOVE this thread!

Use old CDs to decorate with old wrapping paper or whatever and use them as Christmas ornaments or door hangers.

Use old CDs as coasters.

Use old wine bottles as candle holders.

Use old cereal boxes as magazine holders (remove top and cut off about one third of one side.

Use old egg cartons to sprout seedlings before transplanting outdoors.

Round candy tins (I use Altoids) are the perfect size to store Sony PSP disks (this one from my 14 year old son).

Don't want to hijack this thread so for more ideas, check out...

I guess it's a bit of a shameless plug.

you can plant the cartons straight into the soil to prevent plant shock. providing the cartons arent dyed

Hi

New to this forum and this is a GREAT thread.

- Old Christmas Cards are getting a second life and being cut up and used in a craft box for our little girl. She will enjoy making collages and the like with them for a few months. Apart from Xmas cards many other things end up in her craft box, like loo roll inners etc

- All those Quality St and Roses tins make great containers for more or less anything.

- I use 35mm film cases for storing matches, the container is always waterproof so the matches stay dry. When travelling in the past I have used 35mm film cases to put toothpaste in... but I was camping though

I use 35mm film cases to store my reference collection of bat droppings (no, seriously), but I can't get hold of enough. Nowadays it seems like more people are re-using them than are using them in the first place...

The cardboard tubes from loo-rolls are good for seedlings too, particularly trees and other largish ones, and can be planted straight out.

I saw online a few years ago, plans on converting an old bicycle in to a push-plow. Has anyone seen this or know of any plans they can share?

I agree - Freecycle is brilliant!! You do have to be a bit careful tho' - it's very tempting when you get a inbox full of offers of stuff people are just giving away. So much for de-cluttering the house

However don't forget the good old charity shops - they still need people to donate odds and ends, and it'll help even more people.

Try photo developing booths Natterjack - I know of a tesco one where they collect them and will give them away to good causes!
