Some great ideas there Green Amber, you should pop them on Junkk.com! We have something very similar to Freecycle on Junkk.com. It's called Junkk Xchange and anyone can pop their unwanted junk on Junkk. We haven't launched to the consumer yet, but people have already started using it, which is great. I know, I know, a shameless plug, sorry!

Default I grow food to eat in plastic containers on unwanted wooden?

Hi every one I've just registered to join you in trying to help reduce some of our waste going into landfill sites. I'm pleased to tell you I alone have re-used over 9,000 plastic container, and over 150 unwanted wooden pallets to make my allotment plot system, which I hope will be of interest to every one who visits the environment site. To see photo proof of the way I do things please visit my website www.recycling.moonfruit.com. At last I'm talking to people who are doing their bit on a small or large scale to recycle their waste in the UK and in the rest of the world. By us all doing our bit we must make a differance.
It's nice to be talking rubbish with a good end result. Plus I'm trying to save lives too for next to nothing by re-using waste, to add to what's already being done in so many different ways. Power to the people. JRP

I have looked on your website J.R.P, and I really like your plastic bottle scarecrows. Very creative, keep up the good work.

I was also interested in the list of people 'not helping you'. It is amazing how people in position of power can be so ignorant. We have also experienced the same thing, and it is frustrating.

You can re-use plastic cartons, that some supermarkets insist on putting organic veg in, to grow seedlings.

Toilet roll cardboard centres can also be used for this and planted directly into the garden so the roots are not disturbed.

unwanted CD's can be used to keep birds off your crops.

tin cans (punch holes in them in pretty patterns) and jam jars can be used as candle holders.

Old jumpers can be used to make cushion covers, or sewn together to make blankets.

Old tights/stockings can be stuffed and used as draught excluders.

Big cardboard boxes make great cat dens.

A friend of mine has used old tyres for the foundations of her straw bale house, and we used wine bottles to make a lovely 'privacy' window for her bathroom.

You can use old tyres for all sorts of things. e.g. swings, garden containers.

Old tyres have quite a few uses don't they? I think they are also used for making roads now.
