Lightbulb Councils!?!?

Hey
This a sort of continuation from my previous thread about 'Recycling Street Bins'.
As part of my project im trying to find out all sorts of information from the council(s).
At the minute...'TRYING' is the word. I haven't yet had any replies from my emails i have sent and i cant find any information on their websites... so i thought i would do the next best thing...ask other people to see what they know.
I want to know what sort of budgets they have.
What the current Bins are made of?
How much the current bins cost to make?

While im here... what do people think to the Street Recycling Bin being Eco-Friendly in itself by being made of recycled material...?
Sort of makes sense if you ask me...a recycling bin made of recycled materials!

No replies when you write to the council?

Why does that not surprise me?

Norman,

To be fair some of the questions you are asking are better answered by the manufacturers - try:

Glasden
Broxap
Maelor-Trafflex
Sulo
Wybone

for example.

To answer a question on budgets - from my experience, what budgets! An authority I know well only has a very small litter bin budget and that is for standard litter bins as well as recycling litter bins - replacing knackered/stolen/rusty standard litter bins is the priority rather than installing recycling litter bins. At the end of the day recycling litter bins only work if they are compatible with the authority's kerbside recycling system.

Hope that helps.

Paul

I didn't catch the previous post so don't know if you've covered this angle - but when I lived in Germany (1999 - 2000) divided recycling bins in the street were common. Just in case that's a useful fact to drop into your project or you can get some more info from there perhaps?

In Australia they're divided too, but they seem to be emptied into the same hole in the truck.
