Default Need your help on this one

I need some ideas here to save a recycling program. A military base is eliminating the majority of their recycling program due to the cost. This base produces thousands of tons of waste but the cost to benifit to them isn't working. They spend nearly $60000 dollars a year to remove the recyclable materials out of the base and don't make anything close to that back to break even. I need your ideas to save this program and make it more cost effective to the base. Any Ideas???

Can you find any uses for any of the materials within the base or cut a deal with some of your suppliers/manufactuers where you get a discount on the goods you buy in exchange for providing some raw materials? If they would consider it then you might be able to make it ecconomic to process some of your waste into the raw materials they need.

I think the problem is one of perception - you use the words "break even" and that's where the problem lies. Does the alternative form of disposal (landfill or incineration) break even? Of course not so why should recycling?

Just a comment and of absolutely no use to you practically!

Default Help with your recycling program

I hope I'm not too late. I can very likely help you create a "break even" recycling program. I have been involved in many of these on military bases. Do you know how they are currently collecting the materials? What materials are being collected?

The real key here is keeping the collection costs at a minimum while keeping the material in its highest value form - which is baled and sorted. Also, where is the base located?

Thanks,
