Default They don't recycle shredded paper.

Our council do not take/collect shredded paper for recycling. They say that there could be a mix of different papers that cannot be recycled. This kind of thing makes me furious.

What a load of old sh!t.

Apparently the shredding process is said by the mills to make the fibres to too short to mash into the longer fibres found in the newspaper and mags. You can compost shreddings.

Another example of the fickleness of the re-processing industry.

Like I said ,it gets stuck in their teeth. But this really is a silly thread,it is obvious that the different coatings and plastics used on flyers and magazines are not newsprint. Any of the many recycling depots that I have ever been to have different bins labeled clearly for "newsprint" "magazines" "telephone directories" and sometimes "envelopes".Most of the notices sent out by the authorities point out the problems of sorting materials and a read of this forum is an education in the whole matter of recycling.Someone mentioned using recycled toilet paper so go figure, would you wipe your bum with the cover of Vogue? Jesus wept,we are supposed to be encouraging recycling not moaning about the minutiae of doing so.

Your right, this thread is silly. We all should know that it gets stuck in their teeth. And you’re right again when you say we are supposed to be encouraging recycling not moaning about the minutiae of doing so. So please accept my apologies for that.

So, to sum up... I don't have a compost heap and I don't know anyone who does. So unfortunately, my shreddings will have to go out with the normal rubbish collection. Never mind!

If you would like your paper to be used again, take it to the local pet store. Most pet stores use shredded paper for their dog and cat cages.

Default Shredded Paper Actually Can Be Recycled!

I do have a little information to ad to this thread.

Not only can shredded paper be recycled (unless it is pulverized into dust), paper mills throughout the world have learned to use it quite well. The standard acceptable quality for sorted office paper now accepts 100 percent shredded paper that even has small amounts of plastic.

This is true of Asian, North American, South American, and European paper mills. Where is this center located? I can quickly find someone to help them.

Sincerely,
John Daniel
