Default Grants for Solar in the UK

Hi all - I have had a request to explain about the situation regarding grants for Solar. The Clearskies agency at present supplies a £400 grant for England, Northern Ireland and Wales, and a 30% grant in Scotland. In Northern Ireland there is also an additional £500 available from the local authority, and a £200 top-up in St. Albans. Unfortunately this grant looks set to be phased out at the end of this year...so get your panel ASAP and make the most of the sunshine!

Nebulous figures here... anyone who disagrees is welcome as it is sure to be more accurate and therefore more beneficial to everyone. From my readings in the Architectural press, £5000 with an expected saving on your electricity bill within five years... in countries such as Germany you will receive a better return on your investment as greater subscription results in lower unit cost. At the mo in the UK it is not great value for money, but every little helps...

Default Solar Investing

I'm looking into green investments as a safer way to invest my money following the credit crunch for uk buy-to-lets. I'm interested in low entry deals and entry deals around 30-50 euros. I've looked into the countries that have the feed-in tariff in place with competitive financing options - germany has, however, currently sold out. Not interested in investing in stocks or funds.
Anyone got any ideas?

I know of at least one solar company that was just knockig the grant cost off their prices because of all of the hassle in trying to obtain them and the delays it caused for projects.
