Solar Energy Forum I have no doubt that we will be successful in harnessing the sun's energy.... If sunbeams were weapons of war, we would have had solar energy centuries ago. ~Sir George Porter

Default Is BP Solar Profitable?

It's hard to tell from being from such a large company. I doubt they are but it would be interesting to understand that if they aren't, how much are they off by.

I doubt it. If it was, I'm sure they'd be ramping up and boasting about how great it was.

I'm with David, I'm sure if they were profitable they'd be making a very noise song and dance about the event, as would Greenpeace and all the other green groups.

Is there no demand for it MM?

Payback is the issue with PV, and you (sceptic) know it!

BP and Shell along with the other large oil companies are investing heavily in clean technologies, while continuing to sell oil and rake in huge profits through supplying pollutants.

Payback periods for PV are still beyond the 2 or 3 years expected by most investors, by a considerable margin.

It's as much about investor greed as supply and demand.
