Thumbs up Australian Liberal party caves-in over Nuclear Power/Waste...

Coalition goes cool on nuclear energy plants The Age Chris Hammer February 28, 2008 - "THE Federal Opposition has quietly ditched its support for a nuclear power industry in Australia

.Environment spokesman Greg Hunt has told The Age: 'In the next 40 years, I think there is a zero chance of a nuclear power industry in Australia.' Mr Hunt said the Coalition's policy was changed at a shadow cabinet meeting in December, although no statement was issued at the time.

The decision represents an abrupt departure from the policy the Howard government took to last November's election

In the year before the poll, then prime minister John Howard repeatedly stated that nuclear must be one of the options considered as part of Australia's future energy mix.

New Coalition leader Brendan Nelson was an early advocate of nuclear power........................................".

Can the be persuaded to release an official statement?

Has there been any respose from the Coalition to confirm/deny this story?

That sounds like positive news for the short term, allowing renewable technologies at least a chance to be looked at. I've been pumping the major parties with info on renewable tech for the last 12 months.

Even if nuclear got the green light now, it would probably be a decade before any plant came on line if the process is anything like as protracted as it is in UK.
So there is at least that window for renewables to be looked at.

Thumbs up

Yes, all of that my fellow anti-Nuclear friends of the earth, but even more window of opportunity exists given the fact that the Libs are in total disarray and likely to lose the next election aswell because of it!

I thought the official line was, still, actually the opposite to this and there is mor einternal conflict.

I actually think this story is a little bit wrong but I posted it for the purposes of anti-Nuclear/pro-Solar Morale!

If I find a better(more up to date) story I will post it in this thread!!!
