Solar Energy Forum I have no doubt that we will be successful in harnessing the sun's energy.... If sunbeams were weapons of war, we would have had solar energy centuries ago. ~Sir George Porter

Default Have you invested in solar?

This article suggests perhaps you should.

In the short term, the sector will also have to contend with a shortage of silicon, a key ingredient for solar cells that turn sunlight into electricity, and possible changes in political support as elections take place.

No, except for my Green/anti-Nuclear vote!

Lots of solar things that don't require silicon.

Nanosolar - Products

Like this solar paint from Nanosolar. A great investment though I should think.

Even solar stocks have been quite volatile lately, but certainly long term it looks good for solar and some of their recent quarterly sales figures easily beating market expectations, show very promising outlooks for solar stocks. You know when oil stocks rise, solar stocks tend to follow, but this US recession is tending to override that notion. If you think oil is going to be more expensive in future, then alternatives like solar can expect more sales and better profit results, as they eat into the fossil fuel energy market.

Hmm, hopefully they also won't forget that CO2 pollution currently comes with no carbon tax and that eventually if not already, the tax payer will pay for that. It's the CO2 subsidy we really have, when supposedly CO2 polluting power stations are not subsidised.

Yes the carbon tax issue will be interesting, especially if we see a change of party in America.

It would be a great investment, unfortunately privately owned.

Yes solar PV stocks quarterly earnings reports do seem to suggest that they are increasing sales and profits. I've seen double and sometimes triple the performance of year on year figures for several companies. As said before solar stocks have taken quite a hit in this housing credit crunch ( up to a 50% devaluation for several, some even higher ), so hopefully when the US economy recovers, there will be plenty of upside to look forward to with solar PV stocks. I would not be surprised to see them double in value over the next 12 months. This would bring them back to the values they held a little less than 6 months ago.
