Solar Energy Forum I have no doubt that we will be successful in harnessing the sun's energy.... If sunbeams were weapons of war, we would have had solar energy centuries ago. ~Sir George Porter

Default Nanosolar's Breakthrough - Solar Now Cheaper than Coal!

NanoSolar's PowerSheet cells have reduced the cost of production from $3 a watt to a mere 30 cents per watt. This makes, for the first time in history, solar power cheaper than burning coal.

That seems almost too good tobe true. I guess that everyone should keep
the faith that there are very smrt minds out there working on the
problems at hand. This is a very good example of this.

My hat't off to them!

This is amazing news. I've had 2 estimates done, both at over $20,000 for enough electricity to drop my electric bill by $150.00 a month. This technology is SO expensive it is completely impractical. Imagine if I could have it installed for $2,000 instead? Choosing solar would be a complete no-brainer.

For starters this is actually more like 100% increase but I would like to point out that 18% solar panels have been around for a while. There are even some companies that are supposedly in the 30% efficiency range.

The other one though about the film that is produced for 30c that is 15p so can expect them to sell it for about 35-50p per watt and they have got a 10% increase in output so after reading some of the articles about them they are now producing about 21% efficiency cheaper than anyone else.

I have done some rough workings out on proces I have for things and you could buy all the stuff you need for about £1300-1500 for a 2KW system (going on actual sale price of 35p per watt) then it is just the install and a sparky to connect it up.

So we have to wait and see how greedy they are when it comes to actual sale price.

Have a look at their website.

www.nanosolar.com

Found something strange happened when I tried to register with the email update section.
