Default Is it easier to grow food than buy it?

I was just wondering what the situatin was here. If the environment does go tits up will it be better to grow your own food than buy it from the stores?

If the environment goes tits up and you try to grow your own food, expect your starving neighbours to kill you for it.

The title of your post was 'is it easier to grow food than to buy it?' Easier & better are two different things - which one do you mean exactly? Could you also expand on what you mean by 'go tits up'? Not a very scientific description!

Will it be easier to grow your own food? The answer is no! It's not 'easy' to produce your own food - it takes a lot of hard work, knowledge & dedication.

Will it be better? Most certainly!

Default Tits up, I love 'em!!!

Yes, it does take more effort and knowledge to grow your own versus, let's say, shopping at a market close by. Will there even be a market if the ecology/environment/economy goes bad? Probably not, and they will get looted like New Orleans at first opportunity.
Will people kill for food? Yes, and even turn cannibal.
The solution? Remote, well defended, totally independent, high tech eco-villages. It is not too early to start.

The simple answer to "easier" NO
And to "better" not really sure. I do not know sure certainty that it is better, it may actually take more energy if everyone decided to grow their own food.

This was my first summer growing my own veggies. I have to say, it felt awesome eating food that I grew myself. My neighbors also grow veggies and we had fun doing it together.

But do you think that it was "easier"

All that I know is that I can spend 2 hours at work and earn enough money to buy more onions that I could grow in a summer, assuming that I spent 15mins a day in the garden....but that is just an economical view, I enjoy gardening.....it is a great pastime

It may not be easier to grow your own rather than buy food of some kind (especially when your hands are turning purple, green and other bizarre colours as you work on an icy, windswept allotment) but it seems to me a lot easier to grow you own than to find food in the shops that will be as satisfying to eat.

I think that it's easier to go to the store and buy the food, but I actually found that the garden had better quality than the stores. Plus I had more than my family needed. Once the veggies ripened they just kept coming and coming. It was great!
