Default How long will people live in 50 years time?

I'm hoping medical science will evolve to keep me alive until I'm a few hundred years old

What do you guys think the average life expectancy will be in 50 years?

We'll probably all be scrabbling to keep body & soul together at the rate things are going!

If I'm still here I'll let you know!

I presume you mean in Britain Adi, in which case 75 is probably a good figure, but worldwide the average life expectancy seems unlikely to exceed 60 for a long time yet.

Thinking of how much the world has altered since our generation were born, predicting anything more than a decade ahead is fraught with difficulty!

Yes, sorry, I was thinking of Britain/US/Developed World rather than a global average.

I'll go with 75-90 in the developed world; but there is a caveat. If certain countries start to really explore the possibilities of stem cell research the number could be significantly higher in 50 years (possibly your 126+). The developing world will still lag severely behind, but will probably break 60 within the timeframe (even without radical research).

I voted 76-90 (with the UK in mind).

I would expect any increases in life expectancy to be relatively gradual.

Well according to Aubrey de Grey:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4003063.stm

we'll be heading for 1,000.

But I don't think that we'll have got there in 50 years. Over a hundred though, unless any of the imminent global catastrophies get in the way...

God help us if people start living to 125 years of age. We have enough people on this planet as it is without that happening
