That warmongering moron called Bush junior is a prime example. Attacking a country on the pretext of weapons of mass destruction, even though such weapons never existed, and he knew damn well that such weapons never existed. Human toll to date : over a million Iraqis dead.
European politicians signed the Kyoto protocol, and then set out to APPEAR to conform to it. They import palm oil from Indonesia as biofuel, to replace diesel, even thougn it is common knowledge that the palm oil plantations are established by destroying tropical rain forest.
African politicians accept bribes from poachers of elephant ivory, permitting that magnificent animal to be decimated.
Japanese politicians keep the uneconomical whaling industry going, buying up the entire whaling fleet after the private operators discover they cannot make money out of killing whales. The politicians keep it going, killing lots of whales and adding to the mountains of frozen and unsaleable whale meat.
Need I go on?

I guess you are right, except I would use very different examples:
1. Politicians eliminating freedoms by following the direction of the eco-fascists
2. Politicians eliminating freedoms by enacting socialist/Marxist policies
3. Politicians growing government power over industry, which stifles capitalism.
These are sort of threats to the planet, in that they slow the rate of growth of mankind.
Of course I believe in Darwinism, America will prevail over these leftist countries and politicians because all they are doing is slowing their own growth. As a result, the freedom-loving America gains in relative power to the leftards.
And:
America can attack whoever it wants - there is no such thing as international law preventing one nation from attacking another. If, however, europe wasn't so weak, maybe it could have done something to stop them.
