organic means natural...
organic is merely a label and a term packaged for industry. organic farming is really natural farming. organic in its definition is far too complex, for example some organic chemicals are indeed harmful to humans and the environment when dealt with irresponsibly.

organic solvent will tell you that organic chemicals are all those that contain carbon, which from a chemist's point of view is entirely accurate.
For so long, farming methods have altered the environment so that it no longer resembles the nature it has replaced, and what we all think of as natural now, actually means accepted farming practices when we're talking about agriculture.

OK, so you've made that point before.
Although I'm pigeon-holed as a freaky green in here by the anti-environmental movement in our midst (or pro-capitalist technical fixes lobby), as an engineer with a backgound including chemistry, I'm happy to say that organic chemicals are those that contain carbon.
You (I suspect) would have repeated yourself, if I hadn't rattled your cage with my own response to S!

what exactly do you mean by this os? because im assuming its a personal attack considering you are aware of my astrological inclinations which allows one to have an emotional, metaphysical depth of which CANNOT be proved in your books SO therefore you right it off in a spiteful remark.

Strange you would say "Organic" means "Natural"???
Here in the US, those terms have been defined by Congress to mean very differnt things. Burn your dictonary. The nurds have been bumped by the elephants and donkeys...

So as conservationists, we really need to find ways to reduce the impact of agriculture on the environment. Reuced agrochemical usage, no till farming, more food on less land so we can return some of our land to nature. Funnilly enough GM technology is the most likely means we have of achieving this end, so why aren't the greens supporting it?

Interesting point organicsolvent.
The problem may be mistrust. If one checks out the track record of the USDA the results are very mixed. All to often their solutions become part of the problem. They do have a few good people in there, but in the end, to often, lawyers not Ag experts get to write the conclusions.
My own intentions to go "no till" are hampered by the abundance of weeds that grow, when the soil is not damaged by tilling to slow sprouting.
So what do we need? I would like to see a low, flat, thick growing ground cover that blocks out undesirable plants but helps the crop plants. Something thats not going to get tall enough to contaminate or even plug the combine doing its job.
