For me its a dark fairy tale, it is very sad but its also very magical. I think that the girl that played Ophelia was incredible and as you said it is visually delightful.

I thought it was bizarre how it made me feel because between all this darkness, death, sadness, I still felt like a kid and I think that's what they were going for.

I loved it. Liked it a lot better the 2nd time I watched it, though. The 1st time, I watched it with my husband, and he hates subtitles. Absolutely refuses to read them. So it was nearly 2 hours of "what did he say?" & "what did she just say?". AAAARRRGH!!! But, anyway, I thought it was an amazing movie. Dark but beautiful.

Saw this a few months ago. Gruesome in parts but all the more poignant for that at just how brutal the fascist regimes were back then.
