Too bad there are still people out there who believe that eating genetically modified food will make them break out in tumors within a few hours of consumption.

Its also too bad that there are people out there who know damned well that framers will end up paying through the nose for patented seeds that they had no real need for in the first place.

Are you saying farmers are stupid? Why the hell would any farmer plant a seed that was not in their benefit? Who cares if the seed is expensive if the result is greater income than traditional seed? Research and development are not free.

There's a difference between free and reasonably costed,
A good chunk of education is publicly funded,
the corps are getting the advantage of that education and still charging two arms and legs, a good bit of the torso and are working up towards the head through a strangle hold on the ..neck.

Farmers aren't stupid, at least none that I've met, but as has been pointed out on here many times environmental priorities can take a back seat in the face of economic hardship.

Let's see will the cost of gm seed be the straw that breaks the camels back, or am I grasping at straws?

But you did say that farmers are going to end up paying through the nose for this technology. In my experience there farmers don't like paying through the nose for anything! Unless that is, they can make some money out of it. Certainly, all the farmers that I know closely consider all the financial implications before making any investment in any new technology.

So if there wasn't any benefit for the farmers in using GM technology, then they wouldn't purchase the seed.
