Feel free to jump in anytime Deek,

How do you mean when you say that from an environmental standpoint there can only be zero tolerance? zero contamination, What factors bring you to this conclusion?

ie, separation strips, can't be large enough? can't be enforced? can't be justified? I understand what you are saying about contamination occurring to organic, or conventional cropping, for example here in Canada my understanding is that many organic producers of Canola have been driven out of that crop, but here we have no requirement for isolation strips. Is the same problem as serious in countries where precautions have been taken?

Screener, taking canola as an example; canola is insect pollinated and therefore separation distances will be totally ineffective unless the distance between GM canola and conventional canola is extemely large (kms).

So I would say, hypothetically, co-existence can be made to work, but only over extremely large separation distances. However, this seems not to be practicable for obvious reasons.
