Default EIA Predicts 50% Increase in World Energy Use by 2030

World marketed energy consumption is projected to increase by 50 percent from 2005 to 2030, according to a new report from the United States Energy Information Agency. Total energy demand in non-OECD countries is projected to increase by 95 percent, while OECD countries are expected to increase consumption by 24 percent.

And the carbon dioxide from this increase...

Quote:
World carbon dioxide emissions will continue to increase steadily in the IEO2008 reference case, from 28.1 billion metric tons in 2005 to 34.3 billion metric tons in 2015 and 42.3 billion metric tons in 2030—an increase of 51 percent over the projection period. With strong economic growth and continued heavy reliance on fossil fuels expected for most of the non-OECD economies,
There is a problem with how much co2 is produced now! In 22 years there's going to be 51% more....Does anyone else here get the same impending sense of doom that I do?

But can capacity expand to meet demand?

Scary when you think how many improvements in energy efficiency have been made in recent times. Hopefully we'll somehow manage to find the energy to meet the demand.

Its simple economics.

If we find enough sources of energy to feed people, the rates would remain stable, but if we can't find enough sources, the rates would become higher which would reduce some demand.

The energy market is pretty huge. That would seem a big ol' incentive to find a replacement for fossil fuels. At least that would make sense, not sure if it will happen in time or now.
