I always thought that the "electorate" should have to do someting like a driving test before being allowed to vote,see if they know what they are doing.The polithickos would soon be rumbled but while folks continue to vote Con.or Lab. 'cause their family always did then we get what we deserve.In the USA there are people pushing for Clinton because she is reputedly female,not because she is any good and here in Pantaloonia we have two conservative parties if you don't mind [the result of a civil war almost 100 years ago]

Spadlet I hope so too. We can only have hope in their good faith at this stage. Note from the article though;

According to conference organizers, IRENA will work alongside the IEA and other international bodies in areas of renewable energy research, similar to the relationship between the International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA ) and the IEA.

 I couldn't see any mention of the work done by national agencies and local groups in the article. The lack of international effort shows that this has been the main area that has driven the change to date.

Not quite sure about international effort or lack there of, I cant offer insight there, but in relation to this article itself, it's certainly evident that there is an international involvement.

At the invitation of the German Federal Government, representatives from more than 60 countries met in Berlin earlier this month to discuss the founding of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), an intergovernmental organization that will exist to exclusively promote the adoption of renewable energy worldwide.

I think this is a positive development, even if it might be somewhat overdue. Time will tell I guess.

Oh yeah , I'm not trying to knock it completely. I was mearly recogninsing that changes like the ones we are talking about need to occur at all levels in societies and I'm sure the high up international players that be can make a worthy contribution. To date it seems to have been a more bottom up approach that has developed the international involvement and I hope that the work lower down the power chain gets any support and recognition that it deserves . It will be interesting to see what happens.
