Default Putin : The North Pole is technically owned by Russia

Putin just declared that the North Pole, and all it's oil, minerals and natural resources now belong to Russia.

Yet more sign of the political tension surrounding energy. Putin knows this and is trying to grab as much as he can

a map of the North Pole showing a "new addition" to Russia, a triangle five times the size of Britain with twice as much oil as Saudi Arabia.
This is quite a claim; I highly doubt there could be that much oil in the whole of the artic and I don't think anyone can say for sure how much of the stuff is in the arctic at this point in time, or even make a guesstimate of it.

This is rather astounding. I sure don't want to be in the middle of a battlefield, here in Canada.

It's no wonder Russia doesn't want to do anything about climate change. The North Pole will become pretty valuable once all that ice melts
