The weakening dollar is increasing the chances of a cut in output by oil producers' group Opec at its next meeting later this month.

Ministers opted for the cut - which came into effect in November - to help stabilise prices after they fell from a peak of $78.40 a barrel in July to below $60 in October.

I'd expect prices to stay around the $60 mark because oil supplies are pretty tight right now.

Oil prices have fallen below $62 a barrel after mixed signals over whether the Opec producers' cartel would cut output for a second time this year.

US crude eased 45 cents to $61.58 a barrel by 1550 GMT, while Brent crude slipped 13 cents to $62.07 a barrel.

Oil prices fell in light pre-holiday trading on Friday, but held above $62 a barrel as brokers weighed slower economic growth and expectations of a mild winter against the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries' (Opec) determination to tighten up worldwide supplies.

Global oil prices have fallen below $61 a barrel after the weekend hanging of Saddam Hussein did not spark widespread violence in Iraq.

Oil prices saw their sharpest drop in two years, shedding more than $2 a barrel as mild US weather led consumers to use less petrol and heating oil.

US light crude oil fell $2.73 to $55.59 a barrel in New York, falling by over $5 in two days. In London meanwhile, Brent crude fell $2.85 to $55.11.
