BNamericas reports that Trinidad and Tobago last year exported a record 451 Bcf (12.8 Bcm) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the U.S., up 15.6 percent from 2006, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
The Caribbean country is the leading exporter of LNG to the U.S., which imported a record 771 Bcf of the fuel in 2007, up 32.1 percent from the previous year. "LNG import volumes increased as Trinidad & Tobago exports reached a record-high level with a recent expansion of liquefaction capacity in the country," EIA said in a report.
Atlantic LNG in Trinidad & Tobago now has four operational trains, the newest of which is the largest in the world with the capacity to liquefy 240 Bcf/year (5.2 million tons/year), the report said. Last month, Trinidad and Tobago's energy and energy industries minister Conrad Enil announced that in partnership with the UK's BG Group, the government had begun a feasibility study for LNG train X. Study results are due in the second quarter of this year.
