Default Scale back, but we can't give up overnight!

Getting people to give up their cars is just unreasonable and will never work.

People just need to stop and think about whether they really need a car for many of their journeys.

If we all cut out the unnecessary shorter journeys then we together we can greatly reduce our carbon footprint.

I found this great site below about this initiative, the green transport week. We need to scale back are car usage before we can ever think about giving up our cars!

I hope you find this interesting, I did

I think that's true in the short to medium term at least.
The availability and affordability of cars has shaped some aspects of society. People can live further from their place of work, shopping centres etc. or conversely shopping centres etc. can be further from population centres.
It has also had a negative impact on public transport. In UK the "Beeching Axe" closed thousands of railway stations, most of them local.
We have come to dependent on private rather than public transport.
As an example, if I used public transport to get to work each way would require two bus changes, three train changes, take twice as long as driving, and cost six times as much as my fuel costs. I don't suppose it is a unique situation. We need cars to get about our daily lives.

I don't know about the long term. Fuel availability, prices and taxation may take traffic off the roads.

They maybe also need to think about getting a more fuel efficient car.

Never mind the economics, the demise of the motor car would be a social disaster.Unless things have changed in a most drastic fashion ones teenage years are spent in a blur of sexual excitement in a motor with steamed up windows .Footprints on the dashboard upside down.............I look back on those days with great happiness. Can't imagine nookie on a windmill being of much fun.

You'd just have to resort to getting it behind the bike sheds.
