The article also mentions a one-of-a-kind McCartney-themed hybrid SUV that was sold off for charity. I wonder how cost-effective the one-of-a-kind features were. A modest amount of customising might be okay but in view of the above, you have to wonder.
For me it's disappointing. When will the marketing people get past the idea that "the environment" is just another opportunity for publicity gimmicks?

I want to know how non-leather shoes are better for the environment than leather ones. The websites I've seen advertisaign vegetarian/vegan shoes seem to use plastics and other materials based on petrochemicals.

Like most celeberities, he doesn't actually have to do anything that really contributes...just say he cares and pretend to walk the walk. Ultimately he's about as much of a hipocrite as AlGore with respect to environmental issues.
