The latest "big thing" in home insulation is a mixture of hemp and lime plaster applied to inside walls of old houses.

Common green guys, lets make a revolution and start growing hemp..
So if its the no1 solution, why isn't the world's industries looking to get it legalised and grow it themselves, and make a big heap of cash from it? Surely with the power you claim they have to keep it illegal, they can use it to make much more money if its as useful as is claimed?

Read the article 1 more time and study Jack Herer’s web page.

It is all a conspiracy against more productive and cheaper industry.
Hemp is so cheap and easy to grow that it would make oil, textile, plastic, paint, metal, steel and many other industries disappear. Unlimited resource which could replace everything. And its 100% organic!!! It produces more energy as bio fuel per acre than anything else!

But than there wouldn’t be anything to sell and make profit.

• All schoolbooks were made from hemp or flax paper until the 1880s; Hemp Paper Reconsidered, Jack Frazier, 1974.
• 80% of all textiles, fabrics, clothes, linen, drapes, bed sheets, etc. were made from hemp until the 1820s with the introduction of the cotton gin.
• In 1916, the U.S. Government predicted that by the 1940s all paper would come from hemp and that no more trees need to be cut down. Government studies report that 1 acre of hemp equals 4.1 acres of trees. Plans were in the works to implement such programs; Department of Agriculture
• Quality paints and varnishes were made from hemp seed oil until 1937. 58,000 tons of hemp seeds were used in America for paint products in 1935; Sherman Williams Paint Co. testimony before Congress against the 1937 Marijuana Tax Act.
• Henry Ford's first Model-T was built to run on hemp gasoline and the CAR ITSELF WAS CONTRUCTED FROM HEMP! On his large estate, Ford was photographed among his hemp fields. The car, 'grown from the soil,' had hemp plastic panels whose impact strength was 10 times stronger than steel; Popular Mechanics, 1941.

On the agenda for TODAYS session of the Irish Labour Party conference

There will also be a motion calling for an education campaign highlighting the dangers of cannabis use, while another motion will call for that drug to be decriminalised.

And in the manner of Labour Parties world-wide this is the cop out
Quote:
A contentious vote on decriminalising cannabis was avoided at the Labour Party conference when delegates voted to refer the subject back to the National Executive for further consideration.

A motion from the Naas branch called for the decriminalisation, regulation and taxation of the supply of cannabis, with delegate Chris O'Neill saying the motion was about taking money off the drug barons.

There's a report on research into the 'Feasability of Hemp Textile Production in the UK' that was conducted in the UK and Australia in 2004 here http://www.bioregional.com/programme...production.pdf Funders include DEFRA, EU, WWF and a couple of charitable foundations.

It looks like the potential's there but a bit more work is needed to bring it into the modern mainstream. There's also a bit on the ecological footprint of hemp growing compared to cotton and polyester.
Quote:
An ecological footprint analysis of hemp compared to cotton and polyester by the Stockholm Environmental Institute found that hemp does indeed have a reduced environmental impact when compared to these fibres.
