Default The rumble in the tumble

What could be more environmentally friendly than hanging out your laundry in the fresh air? Yet a growing global movement that advocates doing just that has met outrage in America from those who want to keep their neighbourhoods knicker-free. David Usborne reports

I was actually surprised when I found out how much the rest of the world seems to be using tumble-dryers. Here it's just normal to hang all your knickers outside for the rest of the world to admire. And when it's rainy or cold you can hang them inside and they still get dry. Is it all because everything has to happen fast these days? Obviously you can't really hang your clothes outside if you live in an appartment house, but why do you need a tumble-dryer if you have your own house? Besides the clothes smell fresher when they are dryed outside.

Its a bizarre world we live in when putting your washing on the line is a dodgy thing to do.

As mentioned before here, there is a village in Yorkshire where it used to be forbidden, but I can't imagine many areas would object around here.

Many do have tumble driers, but we seem to cope quite well without one. Seems a shame to use one when you don't have to.

I don't know about undies, I've always dried those inside. It'd be an interesting test of how innocent the neighbours are though, seeing if they understand what any kinky stuff is about.

We had an art teacher once that told a mate off for wearing a King Adora top in school because she didn't think that sort of thing was appropriate. When we asked her why it was inappropriate to wear a T-shirt with a band name written on she went all embarassed and mumbled something about not realising that it was the name of a band.

Even inside here its humid and drying can take days.Outside, the birdies that I spend a fortune on feeding ,thank me by crapping on my best stuff. Then I get Californian moments and forget that the stuuf is out there for days on end.Not to mentionwhen we had goats................................

We just dry them inside on the clotheshorse. If drying time is an issue, buy more undertrollies.

But that would be two sets, twice as long to dry and think of all that water vapour adding to greenhose gases
