Default A cautionary tale

I could have put this in the pollution forum but as I see daily the enormous waste of energy caused by this story it may well be better in here. This story is current so I will try to keep you up to date.
Here is a real case of the lunatics taking over the asylum when it comes to matters environmental. It is the story of a little towns chance to free its self of horrendous traffic jams with all the waste of fuel and the enormous pollution that results in hundreds of cars, buses and trucks which on most days stretch [at busy times]for up to 5 miles. The bridge at New Ross is a bottleneck which throttles and chokes the main route to Rosslare ferry port.Any of you who have visited Ireland from the UK or Continent may well have missed you sailing due to this ridiculous and unnecessary hold up. I am full sure that the situation is repeated somewhere near you where some of the nutters who involve themselves in the “Environment” try to take over. The news that the bridge was finally to go ahead was greeted with great relief by all of those whose daily lives were blighted by this anomaly

The Munster Express Online Blog Archive New Ross bridge will be Ireland’s longest

But then the “activists “ stepped in and we get this .

Bypass delays feared - Front Page, frontpage - Newrossstandard.ie

“An Taisce” is something like the UK National Heritage,I, and many others, left it years ago when we realised that it was being taken over by nutters and social misfits who have become serial objectors to each and every road or housing or factory proposal.

Some years ago during the design construction of one of the major roads leading south from Dublin a major bottle neck was created due to the underestimation of just how fast our economy and population would grow and the designers have learned from this and are indeed upgrading the proposed roads and bridges to take cognisance
of this. The original design is well over 10 years out of date due to continuous delays in buying the required land [ greedy farmers ]and so an update makes perfect sense to anyone affected by the proposal. The objectors are not from the area and are making a mockery of “due process” and of the laws put in place to protect the environment and indeed peoples basic rights. Have you similar problems in your home area? Have you got serial objectors coming from out side and causing mayhem?

I've known people object to developments on flood risk grounds even though there was no actual flood risk (but it delayed the process a few years as we had to show conclusively that there was no flood risk). The objectors weren't bothered about flood risk though, it was just something they could hang their hat on in order to try and delay the development (a mix of residential and commercial properties).
