Default Do you have a fuel efficiency device/display in your car?

I read the other day that some new cars come with fuel efficiency displays in the cockpit of the car so that drivers can see when they're driving efficiently (and when not). Driving a bit of an older car mine obviously doesn't have this, but apparently they've proved very effective at improving driving efficiency.

Do you have one in your car?

Yeah, I have one and my car's not that new - it's an X-reg so I think that makes it about 6 years old? It is a Toyota though I've heard that they aren't that accurate - but it is quite interesting to see how driving affects the fuel consumption though, but you have to be a bit careful not to get too distracted from looking where you're going...

I have this "economy" thingy in my ancient Toyota which I guess does the same thing. It shows red whenever you are driving in a more fuel consumptive (is that a word?) way and obviously then you also do more harm to the environment. And then it's green when you drive in a less consumptive way. Most of the time it's green though and my Toyota is probably far from anything environmentally friendly.

I've heard that, and can believe it. The older ones especially weren't that accurate. However, if you drive economically, it should give you a good indication of how much you are getting.

There's no substitute for measuring how much fuel you've actually used, and seeing how far you've travelled.

I have one,its called "The Right Foot",thats all the economy device you need The two eyes are for watching where you are going, and of course for noting what is happening behind at all times.
PS In the US of A ,the Left Foot performs the same function

OOOOOoooooooo I have a Picasso with a fancy computer that gives a continuous readout OR, at the touch of a button,MPG over the previous two minutes OR miles done since last fill OR miles to go before next fill OR total miles done since you started farting about not watching the road.
You cant' beat a gentle foot though,no matter what gadgets you have.

PS for Stan, the Picasso is more eco-friendly than the Prius and the C3 even more so,life is cruel innit

I want to introduce you my new best friend. He's called Toyota Corolla and was born in 2003. He is black and fast and I love him. He also made me loads poorer, but I know that "You can't buy love" -thing is childish. Oh, and he doesn't have any fuel efficiency things.

I found it so frustrating that more often than not when talking to a car salesman he could tell you all about the power, the gadgets, the sound system, etc off the top of his head but when you'd ask about fuel consumption and safety features he'd say just a minute, I have to check the brochure. I think these days cars have fuel consumption stickers but I wasn't paying that much attention, we did lots of research before we went to the car yards and spoke to anyone so we had already done the comparisons. Yep, I've got a Corolla too.
