Default Obama v McCain

Looks like the race for the US president will be between those two. Who do you fancy for the job?

I believe the Democratic party has come up with two equally unelectable nominees. So that'll be McCain then. He will win the election simply by way of ignoring the opposition while the internet smearing campaigns do the rest of the tackling.

At least Mr.McCain seems to have done a few things in his time whereas the other two are just wafflers. And as for that Clinton woman claiming to have been a part of the peace process in my country, that is unforgivable, she must be some idiot to think that she would get away with that one.But then politicians do live in a world apart from the rest of us.

I'm not sure I really like any of them, but Obama probably more so than McCain.

I don't know much about MacCain other than oven chips. Obama reminded me of one of those stereotype American preachers that get everyone whipped up into a frenzy. I'm sure that's also an unfair first impression. I'd prefer it if politicians actually did what the general population in their country wanted them to do, then it wouldn't matter so much who got into power.

What is this woman at?
Is she smoking pre-enjoyed cigars?
Northern Ireland and now Kosovo?
Was she the first woman to land at Normandy ?

Surely all politicians do that? Get their crowd stirred up and then get elected and then ignore their promises. Its the way of the world.

BBC NEWS | World | Americas | Clinton's thrilling tale falls flat

"Hillary Clinton's original description of her arrival at Tuzla airport in Bosnia was vivid and thrilling and entirely at variance with what really happened.

She spoke, for example, of how a welcoming ceremony had to be abandoned as sniper fire forced members of her official party to run for their lives.

"I remember landing under sniper fire," she said.

"There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.

"But it was a moment of great pride for me."

Unfortunately for Senator Clinton plenty of television footage has survived, showing the actual circumstances of her arrival, which were very different.

She smiled and waved as she left her aircraft and then strolled across the airport tarmac to greet a little girl who read her a poem.

The embarrassing gulf between her recollection and the truth prompted this curiously worded climbdown:

"I did mis-speak the other day. You know this has been a very long campaign [laughs] so occasionally I am a human being like everybody else."

The word 'mis-spoke' is a a useful one in this context implying, as it does, that something which feels like a lie is really little more than a slip of the tongue.

Still the Tuzla affair is politically damaging for Senator Clinton.

It helps her rival Barack Obama re-enforce his point that she is prone to exaggerate the value of her service as First Lady in her quest for the presidency."

Hi all,
McCain has done "some things". That's true. Here's a partial list.

1. He's changed his position on nearly every issue in the last 5 years. (He who was tortured now votes for torture.)
2. He was involved in the Keating Five scandal.
3. He has developed very close relationships with corporate lobbyists, and done some questionable things for their benefit.
4. He has had "senior moments" (dementia?).
5. He has wholeheartedly supported the war in Iraq, the "surge", and remaining in Iraq for 100 years if necessary.
6. He has implied that invading Iran would be a good idea.
7. He has admitted that he knows nothing about the economy.

If McCain wins, we are done - not that we don't deserve to be.

Obama is a very good public speaker. He is not just rousing the crowd. Personally, I would find it refreshing to have a president who could actually speak English and THINK!
Many would say he is inexperienced. I would answer, "Like FDR, JFK, Lincoln?" Look where our present group of "experienced" pols has gotten us.
