Paradox:

That report was written by two opportunistic doomesday sayers. I love how it discusses how global warming will cool the planet. This way they have all of their bases covered. The irony is that by saying that anyone of a hundred different climate scenarios might happen, they are bolstering the case that CO2 mitigation would also have an unknown effect on weather. The not funny part is that the financial costs of CO2 mitigation are known with much greater certainty - $200B to date with no clear benefit to anybody accept researchers looking for grant money.

When this abrupt and catastrophic shift is complete the face of our planet and our civilization will be forever changed.
I would just like to know how far back you think recorded time goes?
Do you mean in the last 150 years (modern scientific records), 2000 (the romans et al), or 4000-6000 where we have records of catastrophic climatic events from the sumerians?

Other than that I agree with what youare asking/saying, we don't really know and yet it is time to change our ways.

P.S. if you are interested there are many www sites that have translations of the sumerian scrolls. Try google!

Hi G.B.,

Good question. Generally I feel the last 2,000 years but I do understand that records existed in many forms much further back.

Fortunately, ice-cores have given us eyes back hundreds of thousands of years. That was a breakthrough.

Imp,

You're funny. I think they were taking advantage of the science provided from ice-cores. The proof is actually pretty compelling. They were pretty specific about how events would unfold. Have you read the report in its entirety? You don't have to be scared and in denial Imp. We're here for you. If glaciers invade your town you can crash on my couch.

Don't shoot the messengers Imp. Those money hungry researchers with the extravagent lifestyles and expensive hybrids are not the problem. We need answers. While you may believe that Exxon Mobile and their subsidiaries (Bushco Included) are going to blaze the trail for a Utopian tommorrow it's highly unlikely. We have exploited this planet to the point of diminishing returns and crisis.

You need to get with the program. =D>

Here is an interesting quote from Mitch Battros (earthchangestv.com)

Quote:
This is consistent with the coming solar cycle---Cycle 24, which has been “predicted to be 50% stronger than our current cycle---Cycle 23” (NASA). This was announced “live” exclusively on Earth Changes Media ‘Radio Hour’ by NASA scientist Dr. Mausumi Dikpati who is one of six scientists who sit on the NASA Solar Predictions Board.
I am curious what a 50% stronger cycle means... I'll look into it. We're going to be getting HOT.

Once-icy Arctic now Great 'Wet' North

Another study on solar influence

It isn't the heat we have to worry about, its the radiation and flare. If the prediction is correct, and this coincides with The Mayans and 2012, the next solar peak and the galactic centre we are about to pass through, approaching that might explain global warming a bit better, as we get closer into the hotter bands dissipated heat from the galactic centre.
I am just wondering if Nostrodamus was correct when he said we would be struck by a flame from the sky (galactic centre) and a flame on the earth (Bush/Blair/Iraq/terrorism etc and a nuclear war)

Let's hope not G.R. -- I haven't got my cave furnished yet.

And You Think I Am Extreme . . .

The Next Solar Maximum the Smallest in 100 Years?

Quote:
One would think that a lower sunspot number would be good news for these industries. Overall average space weather effects may indeed be a bit milder. But these industries are more adversely affected by the few extreme solar outbursts that occur during the solar cycle than they are during the less volatile "average" conditions observed during the solar cycle. Svalgaard et al. are quick to point out that some of the most intense space weather storms have occurred during solar cycles having low sunspot numbers
Hmmmm. As if we didn't have enough to worry about.

2012: End of the 5th Sun

...this actually supports my hypothesis.
