And now the carbon markets are open to abuse. Kinda stating the obvious really isn't it.

Quote:
Evidence of serious flaws in the multi-billion dollar global market for carbon credits has been uncovered by a BBC World Service investigation.

The credits are generated by a United Nations-run scheme called the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

The Deniers: Our spotless sun

I think few would deny that we are in the midst of a turbulent shift in our global climate. Some would wager that it is normal and will pass. Others (like me) believe we are on the verge of a major event, one that will bring our civilization to its knees soon...hence the title of this thread. My conclusion relates to a number of factors but my focus has remained on the Sun, Ocean Currents and the formation of the Panama Isthmus 3.4 MYA. I do not include anthropogenic influences because I am certain historians many years from today will lecture that our focus on such nonsense led to our undoing. I do however see a dire situation unfolding on many fronts.

The most pronounced concern is that the Sun has entered hibernation. We are cooling rapidly as a result and the prognosis is for more of the same. This development is a feedback in that less Solar activity means more Cosmic rays bombard our planet and create clouds which cool us more. It's a double whammy. How this all ties into the ocean currents can only be hypothesized but the shifting jet-streams are an indication that something-wicked-this-way-comes. As gas reaches US $5.00 per gallon, food riots are commencing in earnest, crop yields are diminishing while population is surging, and our globe is courting the largest economic depression in recorded history, people still sit around and think that everything is just going to work itself out. It's not.

In an attempt to rise above the complacency demonstrated on both sides of the Climate Change isle I broadened my horizons by looking into some areas which are shunned by the mainstream. I am convinced I know what causes the vicious climate cycles that have plagued mankind from the dawn of time, my next goal was to ascertain what was going on now and where it would go. What I found was not comforting. Lonnie Thompson has scientifically identified a 5200 year cycle which is defined by sever and rapid cooling. The Mayans, who get much less credit than they deserve, pioneered understanding in cycles related to our Sun and our planets. Ironically one of their three calendar systems is called the Long-Count Calendar. It tracks a long term solar cycle which spans 5125 years. According to them we are entering a new sun (the 6th) and this takes place in December of 2012.

The ice-cores, DO events and the history of our civilization for that matter offer evidence that supports a coming challenge. I am afraid the evidence is monumental. We now know that advanced civilizations predated what our religions still profess as the beginning of Man. We also know that those civilizations were wiped out by Mother Nature. The rebirth our Man can be traced back about 4000 years...just enough time to regroup from a massive shift in the Earths climate. Do I believe we are facing Mad Max catastrophe? I sure as hell hope not, but I am concerned about the coming years. Bring on Global Warming because if we are facing a cold-snap, war, famine and struggle lies ahead.

Climate Change Shifts Jet Stream

It probably has a lot to do with changes in ocean currents.

In praise of CO2

With less heat and less carbon dioxide, the planet could become less hospitable and less green
