Default Devastation linked to global warming

Scientists are claiming that the unprecedented ferocity and frequency of the hurricanes that have battered the Caribbean this year can be blamed on one factor: the unexpectedly warm water that has been building up in the Atlantic over the past year.

But some leading US meteorologists reject the idea that this heating is in turn directly linked to global warming. The real villain is the great ocean conveyor belt that ferries warm water from the Equator to the poles, they say. Man-made climate change is a peripheral issue.

More here.

The track of hurricanes in the Carribean is quite strongly influenced by ENSO which can cause the Carribean waters to warm or cool thus drawing hurricanes in or pushing them Northward too early.

Very difficult to relate something like this with global warming.

We musn't forget that sometimes storms can do good things for an area. Storms that erode beaches, uproot trees, and flatten wildlife habitats may also refresh waterways, revive dry areas, and bulk up barrier islands with redistributed sand.

I challenge anyone to find evidence that shows we're having more hurricanes now than in the past.

My own suggestion is that the media is more widespread thus events such as this are far more likely to be reported than in the past AND the planet is developing, mankind is spreading, thus any hurricane is likely to do more damage than in the past.

All of this makes it seem as though things are getting to doomsday proportions when in reality nothing much is changing.
