I was just thinking yesterday about an old Johnny Cash song about working in an automotive assembly plant and taking one part at a time home and getting a free car out of the deal. I think it works.... You might not get the result you expect but it would probably get you where you want to go.

The Harry Potter Alliance » Blog Archive » Dementor Attacks

Quote:
JK Rowling has said “I feel very strongly that there is a move to sanitise literature because we’re trying to protect children not from the grizzly facts of life but from their own imaginations…We need to fear and we need to confront fear in an controlled environment and that’s a very important part of growing up…the child that has been protected from the Dementors in fiction, I would argue, is much more likely to fall prey to them later in life in reality.”

But what are Dementor attacks in reality? I think there are many ways to see what that means. There are sadistic individuals who we can say behave like dementors. And that’s a parallel I’ve been using when talking about prison abuse. But there’s a different kind of real world dementor that far more of us fall prey to on a daily basis: they are the dementors within ourselves. The dementors that suck away all of the happiness and leave us with a feeling of oppression, despair, depression, and anxiety.

Depression and/or anxiety are not uncommon at all. To be experiencing a “Dementor attack” in the form of a panic attack is truly something that is difficult to cope with. And Harry does. We watch as so many others try their best to deal with this terrible feeling. For all of us who have dealt with or are dealing with anxiety attacks or depression it is a truly wonderful thing to have the Harry Potter books to turn to. There’s so need to sanitize literature. Life brings with it many challenges and our stories are gifts that help us meet those challenges with our courage, strength, and love.
- Now, two moments after British punk rock band F-Minus' songwriter had been attacked by Dementors, s/he sat herself/himself down, guitar in his/her lap, and composed the lyrics that follow:

F-Minus - We're all dead men Lyrics

Quote:
doomsday is now. deadmen walk the street. astonished to find the massacre is incomplete. we're all deadmen. doomsday is now. extermination lies in store. nothing to fear. embrace the pain and beg for more.
... after which s/he figured time was just about right for him/her to suck on a coke while lending poor Johnny a thought: you must have heard of poor Johnny: a young American thinking of a joke while clinging to his firm beliefs in Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein, Friedrich Nietzsche, and The Beatles. -

Ok August
I do not know what that was.
But I think that you are just afraid,
and you should be.

No, I was only joking.

But of course: there is a lot of fear going around in this time and age. I've written and thought a lot about it, and - I'll be the first to admit it - I've often been feeling both strongly and slightly perplexed by it. And over the past few years I've been hearing a lot of people talk - and sing - about their existential fears. It is not in any way new to me. But of course: some people are a lot more hysterical than others.

Using Humor for Improved Health: Humor Quote on Laughter by Woody Allen

But anyway - linktree and ThankyouMoneypenny - you should both feel very welcome both to read and add to the discussion that is taking place in another thread on this forum: I am thinking of a thread which found its base in a Guardian article on the present planetary state of emergency that we are, quite evidently, faced with here, and a thread in which not an instance of humourous digress has been injected. -- Click into that thread straight away, okay?
