Default Travel Mode Choice Research

Hello to all of you!!

I am an Msc Marketing Student from Manchester Univesity and i am doing a research on travel mode choices. The purpose of the research is to uncover the factors which determine peoples' transportation decisions like attitudes , habits and social pressure. Hopefully the research will give recommendationa on public policy campaigns on how to turn car users into mass transit commuters.

If you use car or public transport to go to work/university , I would be grateful if you could spend some time to fill this survey.

Follow this link to access the survey: http://mbsselect.admbs.mbs.ac.uk/MBS...rveyID=l8MM659

Thank you in advance!

I have a problem with survey questions sometimes and the way surveys in general are designed.

Let's take the first question here: "Thinking about your journey to work/college, please indicate your opinion on the following: I would use public transport if……. "

Since I cycle to work currently, I would tick all the possible responses as "very unlikely". That gives you data, but I'm not sure that the reasons for the answers given would be correctly interpreted.

Does this kind of thing concern you?

mmm yes you' right...the survey concerns only those who use cars and public transport since i am deailing with only those two travel modes...Actually i should have mentioned this on the introduction of the survey....

Anyway thanks for filling it and for the comments..It wont be a serious problem for the data since there will be a lot of responses.

That would seem rather a design floor, especially in Manchester. I knew alot of people that cycled to Uni and work when I was living there. Last I heard they were trying to imprpove the cycling provision at the Uni. I guess people would that the bus/walk if they were planning on getting wrecked or it was really windy, but if you don't have a cycling option that behaviuoral trend wouldn't show up properly.

Just to clarify also, I do use a car. I just haven't been doing for work lately, because my place of work is close to home... and the weather's been nice.

That's a very kind way of saying I spend far too much time reading books about stuff and refusing to accept not understanding things
