Default Climate Change in Sheffield

Ok, so this is probably not as interesting to everyone else as myself, but I thought others might like a little peek.

Gaynor Boon, Curator of Earth Sciences for Sheffield Museums has produced the report shown on pages 5 to 16 of the document in the link. The title of the report is "Is Sheffield's Weather Changing - Some recent trends in the weather, reported from Sheffield's Weston Park weather station"

Where is this weather station located Spadlet? Some of them are influenced by their surroundings as we have seen in the USA where much of this global warming nonsense was fueled by poorly collected data.

The postcode is S10 2TP if you want to put it into Google. That's why the report's so interesting though, because it touches on possible causes for the changes in readings and also says that the site is amongst the most important meteorological measuring sites in the UK.

From the report:

Regarding temperature trends
Quote:
There is a noticeable trend towards higher night time
temperatures in summer. In several recent years
temperatures have fallen no lower than 19.9oC overnight.
This first occurred in 1990 but has occurred several
times since - 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2006. Overnight
temperatures at this frequency were not observed at
Weston Park during the 1975/76 hot summers. This could
be influenced partly by increased urbanisation and the
heat absorption/retaining properties of building fabric
in the city.
Regarding increases in measured sunlight levels
Quote:
The relatively low figures reflected between1901-1960
are undoubtedly related to heavy industry in the city and
associated chronic levels of atmospheric pollution prior to
the introduction of the Clean Air Act in 1954. The 1961-
1990 average clearly reflects improvements in air quality in
subsequent years. The most significant increases in receipt of
bright sunshine however, have again been between the last
two sets of running averages. It is may be that an element of
the increase could be attributable to the urban heat island
effect, especially since there has also been a noticeable
decrease in the number of days with fog during the last two
decades. Radiated heat from the city’s fabric may counter
the effects of cold air draining off higher ground that would
otherwise lead to fog formation and prevent bright sunshine
from reaching the ground.
I think it's best to read the actual document though, it's not that long.

Oh I will be reading it later its just that far too many stations are showing warming from surrounding buildings and suburban sprawl and the wrong conclusions can be drawn.I think this was covered in one of the long running threads in the forum
