But you don't have the same atmosphere as with live gigs. You miss out on the excitment of discussing possible song line ups with you mates in the pub before hand, the pre gig drinks, the feeling of being surrounded by hundreds of other people all singing along to your favourite songs, the joy when the band's enjoying themselves enough to and do the odd extra like a new version of something, or a cover, or tell a story or something, then the exhausted journey home where everyone's smiling but too tired to say much and the day after meet up where you relive the night before.
I'd rather give up the electricity used to play stuff at home than give up the electrickery used to see a band live.
I'm not trying to say that Thom Yorke is a paragon of virtue or anything, I just love the music and think that anyone that's going to portray themselves as all eco friendly etc should come onto the forum and prove their credentials.

Radiohead starts a US tour 05/05/2008. Then back to Europe for a couple months touring and will be back in the US again in August for more stops. I don't know how many trucks they will run from city to city, but I'm sure they need a few. The band rocks, but this O'Brien thing is a stunt for the greenies.

And if you are not in the pit, then you might as well wait for the DVD to come out. Some kids queue all night to get up at the stage and most groups fail to notice this. One nice is story is of Glen Hansard who is really a nice guy,he was doing a gig with his band The Frames and he stopped off and greeted every kid in the early queue and signed tee shirts until all of the kids were happy.Thom better sign mine in June......or else

That's where not being too tall comes in handy. Just wait for the crowd rushes and manouver yourself into any available gaps. Most times I've found myself in a comfy spot to the side of the front area without upsetting, puching, shoving etc anyone
Myrtti, you coming over to join us for the night? I don't know if it's sold out yet.

Would love to, but I guess I'll just have to wait for the day they finally come here.

You're missing out on the atmosphere and warm beer at £4 a pint though.

what you talk about is not listening and enjoying music. it's something else and music is merely an excuse and a rather minor portion. Actually, it reminds me of the conan movie - the snake cult scenes.

I've not seen Conan, but I think you are probably correct. To be honest, if you want to save electricity then banning the recording and broadcasting of music may reduce consumption, but equally people might just play more online games or something instead. Just as our gig adventures aren't neccessarily about the music itself, neither is the electricity and time that people choose to spend listening to music.
Surely it would be more energy efficient to walk/cycle into town to hear a bunch of people playing acoustical instruments than for each individual member of the audience to download/buy coppies of that music to play on their own sound systems at home? I guess maybe even better would be if everyone learnt to play acoustic instruments and made their own music.
