oh gee, what year was solar max for cycle 23? was it 1996 or 1998 or 2000? Or maybe it was 2001? Considering the surface ocean temperatures have been declining since 1998, maybe that's why there was a choice of 1998. That's about 10 years. If one considers a lag time such as the apparent 6 year difference between length of day, LOD, and certain climate related parameters that one would not expect to be correlated, or perhaps a 10 year lag for variations in ocean temperatures, then that would account for a 20 year indication of declining solar activity.

I guess the other question was is that total solar intensity or is that magnetic field activity? If it's solar intensity was he using ACRIM or PMOD? Since they disagree, they cannot both be right.
