capacitor technology and electric cars? more bs. Whatcha gonna power it with coal fired electric plants?

the granola people in CA had already mandated drastic increases in the required implementation of electric vehicles there - when they discovered that they didn't have the electric infrastructure to even produce the existing demand requirements.

I'm talking hybrids here, capacitors can be far greater than any normal (read lithium)battery for storing electricity. Because there is no need of any chemical reaction, they are cheaper since no rare metals, and can possibly last nearly forever if there is no major spikes in electricity and are built well. I believe lithium hybrids can't replace the car just yet since there is no major bonus, but if all of a sudden new technology halves running costs and didn't cost the earth, then yes, delete the old technology out of production.

Who uses 5 and a 1/4 disks still. Or even for that matter 3 and 1/2's. I bet every one has already gone to at least 1 gig or greater usb pens. Old tech, no benefits, get rid of it!!

you clearly have no context of forces. Many of the supposed high tech new capacitor devices actually do store enegry in the form of chemistry (battery). Why don't you calculate out what forces would exist on a capacitor that stores charge in massive amounts - say one that is capable of running a few hours at quite a few amperes.

You are clearly arguing for arguments sake, I can explain why and how, but you should get it from the horses mouth instead.

Hybrid family car uses CSIRO technology (Solution)

Supercapacitors: powerful mobile energy storage devices (Profile - Project)

Also the CSIRO is the Australian Government research institute. And per dollar is one of the best innovating research organisations in the world. They have also helped the third world countries with a whole heap of innovations, and also lead the way in genetically engineering fruit, so when you eat it, it also helps you to be vaccinated against some diseases without a needle.

They are also the worlds leaders in research clean coal technology, even though not too many people are fussed on burying CO2. I guess they're realists like me, if there is coal in the ground, someone is gonna wanna dig it up and burn it.

read your own references. You'll note in reference 2 that it is referred to as an electrochemical capacitor - not a capacitor and you'll note my first post referring to capacitors that are actually batteries. In your first reference, you'll note that they are using a mixture of lead acid batteries and electrochemical capacitors for their energy storage. You'll also note that the only losses in a capacitor are ohmic losses from the current flow. These so called capacitors are actually jusst a variant on a rechargeable battery. It's curious why there is a combination of lead acid and these devices - or for that matter why either are being selected for use rather than one of the other high efficient battery designs. Lead acids are way down the list in energy density per weight and in recharge efficiency and time - all of which go against it for use in a motor vehicle as energy storage because the energy expense of moving it adds to the total. But then maybe energy efficiency isn't even part of the equation.
