Well I've finally got around to adding the 'can't post links until x posts have been made' feature. It's set at just 2 at the moment, so we'll see how it goes.

I'm also looking into some form of system whereby people can't post to the products and services forum without making a small donation of a few pounds. That's in the pending tray at the moment

That's one thing with computing these days, if you want a feature, it is usually available now.

They say (on their website) they offer a comprehensive help desk with this program, have they been a great help for you adi?

Thought I posted this yesterday, must have dreamt it

Anyway, the vBulletin guys are generally pretty good but to be honest I havn't had to use them much as the software is dead easy to update. Any problems are usually resolved by a quick search on their forum.

Adi,

I also thought of something else. Spammers are only a part of the problem. We really need new members to feel at home. Even though I like your introduction on what we do best, we also need easy threads for people to join in straight away. Then we can bump up the amount of posts before they can post links.

Such threads are:
http://www.theenvironmentsite.org/fo...ind-us-13.html
http://www.theenvironmentsite.org/fo...-game-243.html
http://www.theenvironmentsite.org/fo...riendly-2.html
http://www.theenvironmentsite.org/fo...ht-now-48.html
http://www.theenvironmentsite.org/fo...-post-125.html
http://www.theenvironmentsite.org/fo...stion-117.html
http://www.theenvironmentsite.org/fo...rfismum-5.html
http://www.theenvironmentsite.org/fo...henomenon.html

There is probably quite a few more, each thread, though, doesn't require opinions which could get derided. I guess if they decide to post in these simpler threads, then they can use links to become opinionated after the fifth post. Maybe also they can only start one thread in the introduce yourself forum until their 10th post. Then they can go on the new threads button.

Yeah there are a few 'easy starters' on the board. Things like the latest petrol price thread, favourite season, what the weather's doing and no doubt many more are quite easy to get people into the forum.

Now you mention it I might add a sticky to the introductions forum with some of these in, let people add worthy threads.
