Default fish and chip fuel

Nice story.

Fish and chip oil fuels newlyweds' road trip - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Does anyone know why there isn't more of this sort of thing? There must be a huge amount of used cooking oil out there. I remember hearing about this sort of thing years ago (doesn't Willie Nelson's bus run on cooking oil?) and then the focus seemed to shift to growing crops specifically for biofuel rather than sourcing it from pre-used oil.

But what the hell does Willie Nelson run on?

There is a collection service in Ireland, has been for years but I have no idea of the scale or economics of the business,I have only seen their truck(s) on the road

Try Western Australia. There are a number of companies out there. This is just one: About BioWorks

The main reason for the focus on growing crops is the amount of fuel needed for a fleet and the fact that used cooking oil could not deliver it all.

Interesting link, thanks.

It confirmed something I thought may have been an urban myth.

Perhaps not as much as you think.
On the basis of a few simple calculations it might fuel about 1% of passenger cars in USA. If you put commercial vehicles into the mix, it would be less than that.
Scale.......

Someone posted a YouTube video on here a few months back which was all about a young lad and his father (iirc) doing this.

I also know someone that is looking into it but yeah... there must still be a lot of oil not being utilised.

I have me reservations about living on fish and chips just so we can have biodiesel.Isn't there another way to save the planet? Maybe Black Pudding or Tripe and Wassand or composted corpses?
